1. Musei in Valigia (Museums in the suitcase)
Travel to Italy, art in the twentieth century and the world in a room: these are the contents of the “"Museums in suitcase” project, started on August 16, 2021, dedicated to young people, immigrants, as well as elderly and fragile people, who have no way of visiting civic museums. The initiative, completely free, was organised by the Florence Civic Museums, in Italy, together with the MUS.E mediation centre and the contribution of the local bank foundation.
It consisted of an art and cultural offer, taking home in public centres of the city of Florence, starting journeys that would otherwise be impossible, in time and space, for the participants.
These are real suitcases, inside which are kept materials chosen to offer a truly special experience of approaching the Florentine heritage. From Italy seen through the shots of the great photographers, the Alinari to the masters of contemporary photography, from a sight of the maps of the suggestive Hall of geographical maps in the Palazzo Vecchio up to the full immersion among the great artists of the twentieth century whose works are kept at the Museo Novecento.
The visual and sound elements have been designed and selected to unfold an evocative journey to discover the beauties of the city without leaving the place where people are, without renouncing the possibility of a full immersion in the Florentine treasures. Sight and hearing were the two senses brought into play during the activities: images to look at (printed or projected), curious objects, music, audio extracts, micro-representations and relationship activities took care of the participants on these extraordinary journeys.
“Museums in a suitcase is a very beautiful project - said Sara Funaro, responsible for Welfare of the Municipality of Florence - which gives our most fragile citizens, young and old, who live in difficult situations, the possibility to admire the beauty of the heritage kept in the Florentine Civic Museums without leaving the places they usually frequent”.
“An important project - said Tommaso Sacchi , responsible for culture of the Municipality of Florence - we are convinced that museums must increasingly assume a central role in society and become a space in which many can recognize themselves, a central place in the social life of the our community”.
